4.1 Therapeutic Indications

4.2 Posology and method of administration 

Adults: Take one capsule daily with food

Elderly populations
No studies have been performed in elderly populations, but no dose adjustment is expected to be required. 
 
Paediatric populations: 
Not recommended for use in children

Do not take MEGA ZINC Immune Booster capsules if you are allergic to any of the ingredients

Fertility, pregnancy, and lactation 
Safety of MEGA ZINC Immune Booster capsules in pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Consult a physician prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Undesirable effects   
Possible adverse effects include nausea and vomiting, a loss of appetite, abdominal pain
Headaches and diarrhoea

Overdose
Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, loss of appetite, headaches. 
Very high doses of Selenium can cause severe symptoms including tremors, difficulty in breathing, kidney failure and heart failure. Be wary of other sources of selenium such as eating Brazil nuts while taking MEGA ZINC Immune Booster capsules.


5. Pharmacological properties 
Zinc is involved in various aspects of cellular metabolism. It is required for the catalytic activity of more than 200 enzymes, and it plays a role in immune function, wound healing, protein synthesis, DNA synthesis, and cell division. Zinc is an essential element for a proper sense of taste and smell and supports normal growth and development during pregnancy, childhood, and adolescence. It is thought to have antioxidant properties, which may be protective against accelerated aging and helps to speed up the healing process after an injury; however, studies differ as to its effectiveness. Zinc ions are effective antimicrobial agents even if administered in low concentrations(1). 

Selenium is an essential component of a number of selenoproteins that play critical roles in reproduction, DNA synthesis, thyroid hormone metabolism, and protection from oxidative damage and infection. Selenium has been found to have a protective action against some forms of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Other actions attributed to Selenium are to reduce inflammation, assist to maintain bone homeostasis and protects against bone loss.
